REQ: C-130’s and C295’s at Montijo-BA6 2024

Post by YOXA »

Today on Sunday 5th of May, I spotted 1x C-130 and 2x C295 before the main green hangars and 2x C-130 on dispersals nearby. I was not able to read of because I was too far away.

Does anyone have more information which serials this might be? Maybe some Portuguese spotters :D

Thanks in advance!

According to the database they have 3x C-130H(1x W/O) and 3x C-130H-30(1 stored without engines).

Did you see C-130H or C-130H-30?

If you caught a camo Herc it is the 16802 (stored at Montijo for quite some time already): https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/8744993
And furthermore 16806 has been a test bed for an upgrade for a long time already and mostly at Alverca these days. However... last week I have seen it pinging from Montijo a few times. That leaves three normal ones (1,3 and 5) apart from the crashed one (4), but I would still not pencil any of those in given the uncertain location of the 6 (unless someone can confirm where it was on Sunday).

On 1st of May I spotted the 16805 at Lisbon Airport. Read of by myself. It did not depart as far as I know

It certainly did, it is has been at LIS almost every day in May, making runs to the islands. Usually either a Herc, C295 or the KC-390 comes in in the morning from their home base, flies to one of the islands, then comes back in the evening again before the hop back to home base. In fact I can see the 16805 departed LIS on Saturday at 19.58 without a destination (meaning most likley back to Montijo) and it arrived again at LIS this morning at 7.24, departing at 9.08 to Funchal.

Allright. On Friday the 16806 was pinning on ADSB and I saw it landing at Montijo that day. Is it correct that this one has a special paint tail?

It does indeed. And it is scheduled on a flight from Lajes to Lisbon this evening. Though that does not say much about where it was yesterday...

I did look to the picture again, it were two C130H-30’s (At least one as special c/s other one I am not sure) and one C130H

The stretched ones are the 1, 2 (stored in camo) and the 6 (with the special tail). The 5 was likely also at Montijo on Sunday given its recorded flights in Lisbon. So those are likely your 3 then (1,5,6).

Thankyou so much for your help. I think indeed that the C130’s were the 1,5 and 6.

For the C295 it is probably impossible. Although I saw the 16703 pinning a couple of times on ADSB.

Nevertheless, thanks already!!

Sorry, can't really help with those. Even though only 12, that's too many and I don't really have a good look on where they are all the time.

By the way, are you still near Lisbon? Because last Friday ERJ.135BJ KE3605 of the Indian Border Security Forces made a first test flight from Alverca. Will probably do another this week before returning home (unless something is wrong obviously). Might be worth looking out for.

Thanks for bringing it up. However I am flying back this evening unfortunately. Did not know it was there.
